Open Graph Checker: Validate Every og: Tag
An Open Graph checker reads a page's og: tags — the ones Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack and others use to build link previews — and flags missing, duplicate or broken values. Enter a URL to validate og:title, og:type, og:image and og:url, compare og:url with your canonical and see the preview.
We fetch the page live, read every og: tag in the raw HTML and request the image it points to. Free, no signup. Updated Oct 24, 2026 by the AEOeye team.
Open Graph Check: The 4 Tags Every Page Needs
The Open Graph protocol defines four required properties for every page:
| Tag | What it is |
|---|---|
| og:title | The title as it should appear in the preview |
| og:type | The kind of object, usually website or article |
| og:image | The preview image URL |
| og:url | The canonical URL of the page |
og:description and og:site_name are optional but make a better card. Without the required tags, platforms guess — often picking the wrong image or a menu label as the title.

Open Graph Debugger: Why the Wrong Image Shows Up
Four causes cover most cases:
- Duplicate tags — a theme and an SEO plugin both output og:image, and platforms take the first.
- Wrong attribute — the protocol uses
property="og:…"; some platforms ignorename=. - og:url disagrees with your canonical — shares and previews split across two URLs.
- Cached old version — platforms cache previews; Meta's Sharing Debugger and LinkedIn's Post Inspector can refresh theirs.
How common are Open Graph tags?
Close to universal on big sites. In our October 2026 analysis of 315 big-brand homepages (dataset), 90.8% set og:title, 90.5% og:description and 86.7% og:image.
The gaps are in the details: only 34.6% declared the image's width and height, which Meta uses to render the image on the first share.

How do I read the result?
Fails are missing required tags or broken images; warnings are duplicates, name= attributes, long descriptions and og:url mismatches. The table lists every og: tag exactly as found, so you can spot the plugin that added a duplicate.
Fix the tags in your page head, then check the image itself with the OG image checker and see the result on six platforms with the link preview tool.
One page checked. What about the rest of your site?

FAQ
What are Open Graph tags?
+
Meta tags in a page's head, defined by the Open Graph protocol, that tell social platforms and messaging apps which title, description and image to show when the page is shared.
Do Open Graph tags help SEO?
+
Not as a Google ranking factor. They control how your links look when shared, which affects clicks from social and chat, and they give AI tools a clean summary of the page.
Why does Facebook show an old title after I changed my tags?
+
Facebook caches previews per URL. Run the URL through Meta's Sharing Debugger and choose "Scrape Again" to refresh the cached title, description and image.
