Twitter Card Validator: Preview X Cards Now

X's own Card Validator is no longer a practical way to preview cards, so this tool does the job: enter a URL and we fetch it as Twitterbot, check the twitter:card type and the Open Graph fallbacks, measure the image and show how the card will look on X. Most pages need just one X-specific tag.

Try:

We request the page with X's Twitterbot user agent and build the preview from exactly what it receives. Free, no signup. Updated Oct 24, 2026 by the AEOeye team.

X builds a card from your page's tags when someone posts the link. The twitter:card tag picks the layout; title, description and image come from twitter: tags or, if those are missing, from Open Graph tags.

twitter:card Layout
summarylargeimage Large image above the link — what most sites want
summary Small square thumbnail beside the text
player / app Video players and app installs (special cases)

So the minimum for a big-image card is one tag on top of your Open Graph set: <meta name="twitter:card" content="summary_large_image">.

X Card Validator: Fix summary_large_image Errors

Most broken cards come from four problems: no twitter:card tag (X falls back to a small summary at best), an image X can't fetch, an SVG image, or a page that returns an error to Twitterbot. The checker tests each one.

What happened to the official Card Validator?

X's old validator page now sends logged-out visitors to a login screen instead of showing a preview. X's developer documentation for cards has also moved: when we checked on October 24, 2026, the old card docs URLs redirected to a general docs overview. Image requirements are now best inferred from the Open Graph standards platforms share: 1200×630 at 1.91:1 works for X, Facebook and LinkedIn alike.

How common are X cards?

Very. In our October 2026 analysis of 315 big-brand homepages (dataset), 82.5% set a twitter:card tag: 74.3% chose summary_large_image and 7.3% summary.

Why does X still show my old card?

X caches cards. After you fix tags, the old preview can persist on existing posts; new posts usually pick up the change. Adding a query string such as ?v=2 to the shared URL usually makes X fetch the page again.

To see your link on six platforms at once, use the link preview tool. To check every og: tag in depth, use the Open Graph checker.

FAQ

Does X still have a Card Validator?

+

The old cards-dev.twitter.com page now sends logged-out visitors to a login screen rather than showing a preview. This tool fetches your page as Twitterbot and renders the card for anyone, no account needed.

Do I need twitter:title and twitter:image if I have Open Graph tags?

+

Usually not. X falls back to og:title, og:description and og:image. Add twitter: versions only when you want X to show something different from other platforms.

What image size works for summary_large_image?

+

A 1200×630 image at roughly 2:1 to 1.91:1 works well on X and doubles as your Open Graph image for Facebook and LinkedIn. Use PNG, JPEG or WebP, not SVG.
