Scrunch AI is an enterprise-leaning platform that tracks how ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and other answer engines describe your brand, then helps you act on it. It has been a Sitecore company since June 2026 and lists brand plans from $250 a month. This guide is based on public documentation as of October 2026; we have not tested the product hands-on.

Our position in one line: Scrunch is a real, funded company with a serious product, but the feature that sets it apart from plain trackers sits above the $250 plan, and so does coverage of Claude and Gemini. Read the pricing section before you book a demo.

What is Scrunch AI?

Scrunch AI is software for seeing and changing how AI answer engines represent a brand. It combines prompt monitoring, citation analysis, site diagnostics and a layer that serves AI-readable pages to AI crawlers. The product lives at scrunch.com; when we checked on October 3, 2026, www.scrunch.ai redirected there.

The category it belongs to is answer engine optimization (AEO): improving visibility in answers generated by AI systems. Scrunch describes its job in three verbs on its homepage: observe what AI agents say and do, optimize your web presence from that behavior, and deliver what agents need.

Monitoring tells you what AI says. Insights tell you what to fix. The delivery layer changes what AI crawlers receive. Only the first two are in the cheapest plan.

Is Scrunch AI a legitimate company?

Yes, on every point we could check against a primary or independent source. It has named founders, disclosed investors, press coverage, and an acquisition announced by the buyer.

  • Founders and history. Scrunch's About page names Chris Andrew (CEO) and Robert MacCloy (CTO) and says building began in 2023. TechCrunch reported in March 2025 a $4 million seed round led by Mayfield and a product launch in November 2024.
  • Funding. Scrunch states it raised $26 million in total, including a $15 million Series A in July 2025.
  • Ownership. Sitecore announced the acquisition on June 3, 2026. Scrunch says it continues to operate as a standalone platform.

Three things are Scrunch's own statements and we did not verify them: "500+ customers", SOC 2 Type II compliance, and customer results. The Akamai figure Sitecore quotes (a 364% rise in appearances for non-branded prompts) compares pages using Scrunch's delivery layer with comparable pages without it. It is a vendor-reported case study, not an independent test.

We also did not check Better Business Bureau pages, G2 scores or user reviews. Before paying, ask for the SOC 2 report and two references from companies your size.

What does Scrunch AI do?

Scrunch groups its product into monitoring, insights and agent experience. Each answers a different question, and they sit at different price tiers.

  • Monitoring and citations. You track prompts across AI platforms and see brand presence, competitor presence, position, sentiment and cited sources as percentages over time. New prompts are collected daily for 14 days, then every 72 hours by default, according to Scrunch's data-collection FAQ. Scrunch says it collects data through browser automation and official platform APIs.
  • Insights. The product flags meaningful changes, explains why they matter and suggests a fix. An in-app assistant called Scrunchie helps diagnose them, and a detected content gap can become a brief.
  • Agent traffic and site optimization. It detects visits from AI agents, separates training, indexing and retrieval bots, and shows which pages they rely on. Page audits point to technical and editorial problems.
  • Content delivery (AXP). Scrunch's FAQ says it detects AI traffic through providers such as Akamai, Cloudflare and Vercel, restructures pages, and serves AI-friendly HTML to AI retrieval bots while humans see the normal site.
  • Shopping and AI search trends. Product-level visibility and topic trends, aimed at retailers and category research.

The delivery layer is the bold part, so it deserves scrutiny. Google defines cloaking as showing different content to users and search engines with intent to manipulate rankings. Scrunch says AXP targets only AI retrieval bots, never Googlebot or Bingbot, and keeps the same content intent. That is the vendor's position. Have your technical SEO lead read the implementation before you switch it on.

How much does Scrunch AI cost?

Scrunch lists Core at $250 per month for brands and Agency Core at $500 per month, with custom Enterprise pricing for both, per its pricing FAQ checked on October 3, 2026. All amounts are US dollars per month; the pages we read state no tax treatment. Our Scrunch AI pricing guide goes deeper on budgeting.

Core (brands) Enterprise (brands)
Price $250/month Custom
Unique prompts 125 Custom
Responses collected 5,000/month Custom
Site audits 5/month Full site audits
Brand workspaces / users 1 / 5 Custom
AI platforms 4: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Copilot 9, adding Claude, Gemini, Google AI Mode, Grok, Meta AI
Content delivery (AXP) Not included Included
API, SSO (SAML, OIDC), dedicated team No Yes

Source: Scrunch pricing page. Four practical points follow from it:

  1. Claude and Gemini need Enterprise. If your buyers use them, the self-serve plan will not show you those answers.
  2. The trial takes a card. Scrunch's trial FAQ says a credit card is required and that the account upgrades to a paid plan automatically unless you cancel.
  3. Core is about $2 per prompt. $250 divided by 125 prompts is $2 per prompt per month, our arithmetic. Core also limits you to one country, one persona, one language and five competitors.
  4. Some answers are not published. The overage and annual-pricing questions on the pricing page have no visible answer in the page we fetched. Ask for both in writing.

Who is Scrunch AI best for?

Scrunch fits teams with an owned website, a content workflow and budget for a standing program. It is a poor fit for a one-time baseline.

Good fit:

  • Enterprise marketing teams that already run a CMS, especially Sitecore, which says Scrunch's recommendations will be automated inside SitecoreAI.
  • Sites that render content with JavaScript, where seeing what AI crawlers actually receive matters.
  • Agencies managing several clients. Scrunch documents a single workspace, white-labeled output and an agency partner program with referral commission.
  • Retailers who want product-level visibility.

Weak fit:

  • Solo founders and small teams who want to know where they stand this week.
  • Anyone who needs Claude or Gemini answers without an Enterprise contract.
  • Teams without someone to act on weekly findings. A dashboard nobody reads is the most expensive tool in the stack.

What we saw on scrunch.com's own site

When we fetched scrunch.com on October 3, 2026, as one of 43 AI-visibility vendor sites in AEOeye's crawler access study, its robots.txt blocked no AI bots and named none explicitly. It also serves an llms.txt file. Its homepage HTML contained no JSON-LD structured data.

That last point is a neutral observation, not a verdict. Schema may be injected by JavaScript, which Google renders but many AI crawlers do not. The per-site data is in our study CSV.

What are the alternatives?

The right alternative depends on whether you need a baseline, a tracker or an enterprise program.

  • A one-time baseline. AEOeye's free audit asks ChatGPT three unbranded buyer questions and shows the real answers. The $29 one-time report covers 10 questions across five engines. We are not a daily tracker, so tell us if you need that and we will say so.
  • A dedicated tracker. The best AI visibility tools and AI visibility trackers compare options at lower price points.
  • A direct rival. Scrunch AI vs Profound puts it next to the other well-funded name in this category.

Whatever you buy, decide first what you would change if the answers came back bad. Why AI doesn't mention your brand covers that step, and you can run the free audit before spending anything.

FAQ

Is Scrunch AI a legitimate company?+

Yes, on every point we could verify. Scrunch has named founders, disclosed investors, TechCrunch coverage from 2025, and an acquisition announced by Sitecore on June 3, 2026. Its customer count and SOC 2 status are its own statements, so ask for the SOC 2 report and references before signing.

Is Scrunch the same as scrunch.ai?+

Yes. The product is now run from scrunch.com, and www.scrunch.ai redirected to scrunch.com when we checked on October 3, 2026. The company describes itself as Scrunch, a Sitecore company, and says it continues to operate as a standalone platform.

How much does Scrunch AI cost?+

Scrunch lists Core at $250 per month for brands and Agency Core at $500 per month, both in US dollars. Enterprise is custom for both. Core covers 125 prompts and four AI platforms. Scrunch offers a seven-day trial of Core, and it asks for a credit card to start it.

Does Scrunch AI track Claude and Gemini?+

Not on the Core plan. Core covers ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Microsoft Copilot. Scrunch lists nine platforms, including Claude, Gemini, Google AI Mode, Grok and Meta AI, but attaches that coverage to Enterprise.

Who should skip Scrunch AI?+

Solo founders and small teams who only want a one-time read on where they stand today. A card-backed trial, a 125-prompt package and an enterprise-shaped product are more than a baseline check needs. A one-time audit costs far less.
